Watch 5 News Clip
Watch 5 News clip and do a
summary of what you have heard/learnt.
The first news clip that I had decided to watch is Amanda
Todd’s death. She committed suicide due to cyber bullying and the much taunting
from the people around her. I have learnt that Social Medias like Facebook and
twitter can be a very dangerous tool and one should think twice before posting
any comments or statuses.
This news clip is about the recent typhoon bopha happening
in the Philippines. Strong winds and rain have caused destruction and it is
estimated that around 60 000 of the people are living in emergency shelters due
to their houses being blown off. More than 200 people have lost their lives due
to this typhoon as well. We do hope and pray that this typhoon would not take
away any more innocent lives.
Gardens by the Bay is now open for all visitors to visit.
The construction of this garden cost about 780 million and work began 5 years
ago. There are ‘fake’ trees found in the gardens and they are not only there
for decoration purposes but solar panels have been built on it so that it can
generate solar energy and cause lesser pollution to the environment.
Millions of bees are dying and nobody knows what the reasons
are. Honeybees help in the pollination of flowers and crops. With these bees
dying, farmers have suffered huge losses as there is a decrease in their yields
and crops. These bees are important
insects and the researchers should find out the root of the problem as soon as
possible.
There has recently been a rise of Korean pop trend and gangnam
style has become an international song. This song is sung by PSY, a Korean
singer and up to now has the highest number of views on YouTube. There are 934
million views from fans and people all around the world in just 4 months. The
CEO of Mnet has stated that actually K-pop is allowing people to learn a new
language, and find out their passion or what they are really interested in.

Teenage! <
Teenage
magazines are meant for teenagers as it can be deduce from the title. The cover
page is filled with different kinds of bright colour and bold fonts to attract
the attention of teenagers. Most importantly, they will put pictures of famous
celebrities or the trending k pop groups to convince people to pick up or
purchase their magazine. In this magazine, there are also free posters of k pop
groups given. I guess this is what makes teenagers want to buy this magazine.
They have all sorts of genre ranging from fashion to celebrity news to what is
the most ideal birthday present. This magazine is priced at three dollars,
which I think can be afforded by teenagers too.

THAILAND :)
During this December holiday, I
have been to Phuket, Thailand. Personally, I feel that Phuket is a great place
for people to relax and recharge themselves by shopping or lazing by the
beaches. It was an enjoyable and enriching one day tour as I got to learn many
things about their culture there.
Majority of the people there are Buddhist and there are many temples all
around Phuket. The tour guide taught us that when greeting, females should say Sawadee ka and male should say Sawadee Krap. The ‘ka’ or ‘krap’ is
used at the end to make you sound more polite and courteous. Not only did I
have fun but learnt many different things which I did not know about the
country at first.
Movie Review
Movie: 10 promises to my dog
During the
holidays, I had gotten a dog and I decided to watch the movie- 10 promises to
my dog. It is a Japanese movie with English subtitles. Personally, I like this
movie very much because it taught me a lot about commitment and responsibility,
the amount of love, care, concern you have to give to your dog. This movie showed me the loyalty that all
dogs possess and how the dog can actually love you more than itself. I was
touched by the movie and I would recommend all animal lovers to watch it so
that they would not take their pets for granted and eventually create an inseparable
bond with them.

2)
This
book is written by Cathy Hopkins and it is meant for all teenagers to read as
they grow up and encounter different kinds of problems from friendship to love
relationship. This is an interesting novel as it actually says what every
teenager will go through eventually. This book showed me that only during times
of trouble; you are able to say who your true friends are because they will
never leave you in the lurch. Personally I would rate this book 9/10 and would
recommend to all teenagers to read! J
Reading and review of one academic magazine
BBC knowledge magazine( volume.4 Issue 8)
This
magazine contains facts and helps you to be more aware of what is happening in
the world. The main article of this issue’s magazine is the Origin of life. The visuals
accompanying this article are DNA samples, cells and chromosomes. As it can be
seen from these pictures, this article is closely related to science or to be
more accurate- Biology. There are coloured pictures used to allow people to be
able to visualize things and understand the article better. Pictures used also
make the scientific article seem less boring and retain the interest of the
audience so that they will finish reading the article as well.
